Session: Microturbines and Biogas
“Why Microturbines Are Emerging as CHP Solutions”
Lauren Ray, GEM Energy
Commercially-viable microturbines entered the market over 15 years ago with early installations at wastewater treatment plants in NY and across the world. The confirmed benefits of micro turbines over alternate CHP technologies, such as traditional reciprocating internal combustion engines, include resilience to hydrogen sulfide, streamlined utility interconnection, low air emissions/noise/vibration by design, and a lower lifecycle cost. All the important characteristics of a digester gas-fueled CHP system are presented, including a 7-MGD plant lifecycle cost analysis.
